Data Services
Data Services Solutions SGS Data Services offers a complete data management solution from the smallest to even the largest and most complex data management tasks. Technical data, geospatially referenced imagery and electronic documents are all managed through a single set of web-based tools. SGS Data Services operates and maintains all of the hardware and software necessary for you to successfully acquire, process, store and access your project data from anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day. All you need is a personal computer with a connection to the internet, and the desire to save both time and money. The SGS Data Services allows members of the project team to share data and collaborate in ways never before possible. Training and technical support are included so that all project team members - not just data managers - will take advantage of this powerful system to save time and increase efficiency. SGS Data Services is powered by Synectics, the environmental industry’s leading data management service provider. In 1996, Synectics designed, built and implemented the world’s first Internet-enabled environmental data management system.
Tomorrow’s Applications Deployed Today Software development is well known as a long and often an expensive process. The typical alternatives are to buy and customize off the shelf applications, or to allow individual users to come up with solutions that work for them, such as multiple single-project spreadsheets. In the environmental industry, there aren't too many off the shelf applications, and of the ones that are available, there is a substantial investment in acquiring the software and learning to use it. In short, implementing a new business application involves up-front costs, significant personnel investments, and put the majority of the risk in the buyer's lap. Using SGS Data Services for environmental data management, avoids both of these cases. Because a working system already exists, there's no time spent on design and development. For a monthly fee, or on a direct project billing pay-per-use basis, you can start using an enterprise level database system immediately. You can choose whether to staff the project yourself, with onsite training or remote technical support as you need it or you can offload the whole thing and focus on all the other parts of your job. SGS Data Services can put any business on a level playing field with the best and biggest in their industry any time they're ready.
Data Services Solution For an environmental data management effort to be successful, data must be collected in such a manner as to ensure legal defensibility and documentation of acquisition. SGS Data Services’ system has been architected from the ground up to maintain traceability of every database record back to a known and accountable data generator. To this end, we provide Internet tools that will allow each user, whether in the field, laboratory, or other organization, to screen their own data against stringent project requirements, and load it themselves into the final submission tables. Once the generator certifies that the data set is complete and compliant to the best of their knowledge, it is time stamped with the user’s ID, and becomes ‘read only’ so that it may not be altered. In this way, the origin of each data set can be known.
Safe and Secure Our local and Internet systems use password based security and data encryption technologies to ensure that your data is secure and available only to authorized project personnel. SGS Data Services’ goal in designing our Remote Data Management System was to create a modular application based on standard software components, using standard data models. The system's core data structure has been adopted from the Environmental Resources Information Management System (ERPIMS), which has been the industry's de facto standard for nearly a decade. This approach has resulted in a low cost, highly tested, industry standard solution.
Quality – Turnaround – Price Access to real-time charts and reports supports informed decisions allowing traceability and accountability resulting in legally defensible data. This process allows the project to be shortened as much as 90 days between the time the data is generated and put in the hands of the decision makers or the end-users. Internet technologies allow sharing of information immediately. Additionally, projects have saved 40% or more on time and material costs due to the near elimination of production labor, consumables, shipping, faxing, emailing and archival costs.
