EMC COMPLIANCE

Electromagnetic Interferences (EMI)

To be declared Electromagnetically Compatible (EMC), electrical appliances do not introduce intolerable electromagnetic disturbances into their environment, and are not affected by similar disturbances.

Balancing the Electromagnetic Environment

Disturbances caused by appliances may not exceed the agreed levels for residential and industrial areas, and in the same time they have to withstand disturbances up to the agreed level.

Such disturbances can be transmitted from one device to another, either through wiring, or electromagnetic radiation. For example, electro medical equipment in hospitals may be disturbed by nearby mobile handsets. This is why the use of mobile phones is usually not allowed in such environments.

EMC Testing Process:

The first step to insure your product is EMC – conform is pre-compliance. As part of the pre-compliance process electrical or electronic products are tested under extreme conditions. Advantages of Pre-Compliance Testing:

  • Products are tested at the development stage
  • Testing lasts only a few hours
  • Pre-compliance is fairly inexpensive compared with a complete test
  • Delivery time is normally one week
  • Pre-compliance gives you a reliable prediction of a product's EMC conformity
  • It does not, however, prove the product's conformity with the standards

In order to verify the EMC conformity with the regulations on markets of different countries a Full-compliance testing is carried out on the final product in accordance with the applicable standards.

  • Testing lasts several days
  • Delivery time is normally 2-4 weeks
  • The product’s EMC conformity is verified
